about

The first compilation of 🎼♀
The second one: genetictrance.bandcamp.com/album/vol-2-secret-gender

Exploration of the feminine surface layers of contemporary post-industrial landscapes can lead us to such figures as Cosey Fanni Tutti, Sasha Grey (primarily within aTelecine, but also solo), or Alice Glass. Going deeper underground we will be able to encounter Ramona Xavier (Macintosh Plus), Maryanne Amacher, Helena Hauff, Elysia Crampton, Margaret Chardiet (Pharmakon), or Frederikke Hoffmeier (Puce Mary). Transcending into the profound there will be Liz Fox (Macronympha), Jessica Rylan, Charlotte Duchêne (Naughty), and Elizabeth Veldon. But there will always be place for some female gender participants to be lost in the deepest and hardly reachable alcoves of the contemporary rhizome.

One of the alcoves of this kind is Genetic Trance, a netlabel proud to present “From Pharmakon”, a selection of feminine appearances on the label. The feature of some, if not most of those appearances, the feature that we would like to highlight with fascination, is the spontaneous, flirting nature. The feature revealing uniqueness of the backgrounds behind each of the compositions, questioning the circumstances that led to creating deals between the authors and the publisher. The selection features one track from every female author within the netlabel as for 2018.III.19 (unless anyone was overlooked), sorted from the earliest to the latest appearance.

① Yaroslava Romanets “Fandorin After Breakfast”
Taken from “Fandorin Projet 1” by various artists, 2011 (archive.org/details/gt100FandorinProjet1)

— “Fandorin Projet 1” was a glorious compilation comprising 51 compositions ranging from mainstream hip hop and chanson to lowercase noise and digital raw black metal. That apparently was the first compilation on the label, its 100th release, and the first release to meet 2011.
The compilation featured six tracks made by “real-life” acquaintances of the compiler (i.e. the label owner). Four of those tracks were originally AMR cellphone dictaphone recordings.
Every of those recordings featured compiler’s fellows from Goethe-Institut. Unlike the other three things, the one by Yaroslava Romanets was recorded by herself. It contains sounds of Yaroslava brushing her teeth.

② Marina Serbina “Fandorin'd like it [feat. Alex Ischenkau]”
Taken from “Fandorin Projet 1” by various artists, 2011 (archive.org/details/gt100FandorinProjet1)

③ Ulka Van “They saw Fandorin (feat. Marina Serbina, Bodyborachyck, Max Gachkovsky, Alex Usiel Ischenkau)”
Taken from “Fandorin Projet 1” by various artists, 2011

④ Lil Deys “24.12.2010 (Fandorin date) (feat. Yaroslava Romanets & Maxim Gachkovsky)”
Taken from “Fandorin Projet 1” by various artists, 2011

— Tracks ② to ④ were recorded by the compiler. They feature spontaneous talks by the compiler’s fellows from above-mentioned Goethe-Institut. The artist from track ③ (Yuliya Van, a Chinese Ukrainian) is professionally connected with music (a violinist). The titles for the tracks ① to ④ were given by the compiler.

⑤ ApostRophe “Beyond Of Death Rules”
Taken from “Beyond Of Death Rules”, 2011 (archive.org/details/gt104Apostrophe-BeyondOfDeathRules)

— Russia’s ApostRophe was obviously influenced by Angela Gossow period of Arch Enemy, but with no hypocrisy regarding instrumentation or elaboration. The release was though masked through supplying the work with “promo” category, which may hint on dissatisfaction with the thing done. Anyway, elegance is yet manifested, not in sterility, but in naturality. The growling of Breath, the frontwoman, is much more womanly compared to Angela Gossow and thus paradoxically tender.

⑥ OlD'n “A04-01-11_18.01”
Taken from “OlD'n”, 2011 (archive.org/details/gt128Oldn-Oldn)

— OlD'n was a project started by two compiler’s classmate girls, possibly at his direct suggestion. Being fifteen years old at the time of recording they produced a short homemade album. Beside the track presented on the compilation citing the “Flea Waltz”, the album contained tapping, vocal noise, outbursts and laughter. AMR quality. So cute and so daring at the same time.

⑦ x-zlif “strah”
Taken from “strah” by x-zlif & razxca, 2011 (archive.org/details/gt217X-zlifRazxca-Strah)

— Varvara Tutunnik as x-zlif was the label’s feminine discource ascension into something more schematic and sensuous at the same time. Varvara’s music substantially relies on tonality, but this tonality is a part of considerate and introspective work with textures and atmospheres. Strangely alienated yet deeply personal, formulaic yet sincere, it creates an uncanny valley. x-zlif is the music of a person whose emotions are deeply intellectualized, and whose joy is curbed, controlled and classified.

⑧ iky iky “Disbelief [Radica Mix]”
Taken from “Fandorin Projet 2” by various artists, 2012 (archive.org/details/gt390FandorinProjet2)

— iky iky was a project of Laetitia Schteinberg. She seems to be the only MtF within Genetic Trance before Yua Hirasawa joined us in 2018 as a part of “Antifragility” compilation.

⑨ Наугольник “Экзотическая страсть”
Taken from “Экзотическая страсть”, 2012 (archive.org/details/gt422Naugolnik-ExoticPassion)

— Male-female duo from Russia. Glorious muzak.

⑩ Zlata Kaufmane “██005██”
Taken from “demo0001”, 2015 (archive.org/details/GT622)

— A Latvian element of the horrifying dimension of Genetic Trance. Connected with Suooort. Might be a fake, like reality itself.

⑪ Arissa Franklin “Those Articles On Wikipedia I'm Ashamed To Watchlist”
Taken from “Arissa Franklin's Sexual Experiences”, 2016 (archive.org/details/GT647)

— As for 2016, Genetic Trance became at least somehow weirder than it had used to be before. Arissa Franklin, a mysterious project allegedly started by a fifteen-year-old girl based in Los Angeles, contributed a lot to fueling the delusional mood.

⑫ Культурный Mensch “Horrible Mistake”
Taken from “The Outsider Riviera”, 2016 (archive.org/details/GT661)

— Sung by Maria Maruf.

⑬ репер а “интро (всем людям) (ft. Ира PSP, Alx Beats prod.)”
Taken from “друзья и их совмески” by репер а, 2016 (archive.org/details/GT667)

— Amazing vocals by Ира PSP on репер а’s Utopian introduction.

⑭ Unknown Artist “1. Заварите имбирный чай и пейте его до еды, чтобы снизить аппетит и улучшить качество пищеварения. Для этого натрите на терке или нарежьт”
Taken from “Имбирный чай” by various artists, 2016 (archive.org/details/GT697)

— This is not about ginger tea.

⑮ Genetic Trance feat. Galah “Имбирный чай”
Taken from “Имбирный чай” by various artists, 2016 (archive.org/details/GT697)

— Galah is singing about ginger tea, beats by Genetic Trance. Ginger tea is an enemy of telephones.

⑯ Имбирный Чай “Выдры”
Taken from “Имбирный чай” by various artists, 2016 (archive.org/details/GT697)

— A letter “r” tongue-twister about otters read by a burring girl.

⑰ котожорина “малютка Рыжман”
Taken from “три тысячи талантов”, 2017 (vk.com/wall-47728580_404)

— I describe Sara Kotojorina as Hello Kitty version of Antonin Artaud.

⑱ Zhvan & Me “«Уіааааааааааа»*”
Taken from “Mmxviii Ii Iv”, 2018 (genetictrance.bandcamp.com/album/mmxviii-ii-iv)

— I am proud to know Sasha Zhvan personally. She is a keen experimenter and also a fashion model. She is also affiliated with 204g project.

⑲ Yua Hirasawa “Ainofuruyoru”
Taken from “Antifragility”, 2018 (genetictrance.bandcamp.com/album/antifragility)

— A Japanese MtF artist.

⑳ Олена Додик “Мой второй микс”
Taken from “Три микса”, 2018 (genetictrance.bandcamp.com/album/--3)

— I know nothing about Olena Dodik. At least, it seems to be a female name.

㉑ Tiholaz/K S “cut version (2), record20180128113825 (online-audio-converter.com)”
Taken from “GT839”, 2018 (genetictrance.bandcamp.com/album/gt839)

— K S (or K S (2), ««K S»», etc.) is another real-life acquaintance of the label owner. The track featured on this compilation was initially a recording of K S speaking with another person. It was recorded by K S and shared with Tiholaz. The voice of that other person was removed from the recording by Tiholaz in order to get K S’s agreement to made the item public.

㉒ khegel “5-T0m”
Taken from “Zenquilibration” by various artists, 2018 (genetictrance.bandcamp.com/album/zenquilibration)

— The label’s newest discovery so far, khegel was started by a Moscow girl at the crucial age of fifteen (which appears to have been mentioned twice before within this write-up regarding OlD'n and Arissa Franklin). Obviously inspired by the 20th century existentialist philosophy, her art is surprisingly thought out, and deeply felt on the other hand. According to Discogs, she published nine releases in 2016 via Razxca. Be sure to check her SoundCloud and Tumblr pages.

Original 1000 × 1000 image is included with the download of the whole release.
